According to a recent report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Justin Fields is "determined" to make a comeback by Week 9 for the Bears' game against the New Orleans Saints. Despite being doubtful for this Sunday's matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, Fields is working diligently on his rehabilitation and game preparation, with his return contingent on his ability to grip and throw a football, which may take some time. The Bears are hopeful that Fields can avoid being placed on injured reserve.

Fields has been sidelined for one full game since injuring his thumb against the Minnesota Vikings two weeks ago. In his absence, Tyson Bagent, an undrafted rookie quarterback from Division II, is expected to make his second NFL start. Bagent had an impressive debut, throwing for 162 yards on 29 attempts, completing 21 passes, and recording one touchdown pass to Darrynton Evans.

Regarding Bagent, Fowler also mentioned that the Bears have high hopes for his future in the league. They believe he has the potential to establish himself as a reliable backup quarterback for an extended period. Bagent's strong football curiosity, his ability to quickly grasp the offense during training camp, and his knack for making swift decisions on the field have contributed to the optimism surrounding his development within the Bears' organization. While his traits may not be considered top-tier by NFL standards, the team sees potential in him.
