After my initial visit to Miami in March, the prospect of a return trip was all too tempting. However, for the Chicago Bears' quarterback Justin Fields and a select group of his team members, their recent sojourn to South Florida was less about sun-soaked relaxation and more about honing their skills on the field.

Fields had previously announced to the press in June his plans to round up receivers, running backs, and other squad members for a workout session in Florida. Bears insider Zack Pearson's tweet on Thursday confirmed Fields' Miami training, and by Friday, visual proof surfaced of Fields and his team sweating it out under the Florida sun.

To all Bears in the sun remember to hydrate! Florida's heat can catch you off guard.

Among those joining Fields and Darnell Mooney in these intensive workouts were backup quarterbacks PJ Walker and Nathan Peterman, receivers D.J. Moore, Chase Claypool, Nsimba Webster, Daurice Fountain, Equanimeous St. Brown, and Tyler Scott, along with tight end Cole Kmet. If you're a crucial part of the Bears' receiving lineup, chances are you spent time with Fields in Florida over the weekend. These bonding and training sessions set a great tone leading up to the kickoff of training camp.

Among the various players currently in session with Fields, the one I'm most eager to follow during camp is Darnell Mooney. It's a pivotal year for the Tulane graduate. Not only is he bouncing back from a season-ending ankle injury, but he is also entering the last stretch of his rookie contract. Mooney was Fields' main target even before the additions of Claypool and Moore. The chemistry that started brewing back in the 2021 season between Mooney and Fields isn't fading anytime soon. I'm intrigued to observe the evolution of their partnership, particularly once Mooney fully recovers. We've had glimpses of Mooney executing runs, but watching him live at the Halas Hall practice field or during regular season action on Soldier Field turf will provide a different perspective.

Eventually, I plan to delve into the expected target distribution for the upcoming season. I'm curious how the dynamic will shift when new additions like Moore and Claypool, who equally demand the ball, join the established duo of Mooney and Kmet. It's a pleasant quandary to have when your offense boasts several players whom you trust to receive your quarterback's throw during any play. This is why I feel a buzz of anticipation whenever these guys utilize their downtime to practice together. The 2023 Bears offense needs to iron out a few wrinkles before the regular season curtain rises, but it's clear that the process is well underway.
