Justin Fields Sets Sights on Shattering a Bears Record in the Upcoming Season
In a bold commitment, Chicago Bears' quarterback Justin Fields has pledged to shatter a long-standing team record in the imminent season.
Fields, who demonstrated significant improvement across the board last season, is determined to make history by becoming the first Bears quarterback to throw for 4,000 yards, a feat he aspires to achieve in 2023.
The Bears hold a unique, albeit unwanted, distinction as the only NFL team never to have seen a passer reach the 4,000-yard milestone. The current franchise record, a respectable 3,838 yards, was set by Erik Kramer way back in 1995. However, Fields has his eyes firmly set on this record, intending to propel the Bears into the annals of NFL history by becoming the first player in their 102-year existence to hit that elusive number.
When queried by CBS Sports' Bryant McFadden on whether he thinks he can exceed 4,000 passing yards, Fields confidently affirmed his objective for the season.
«I will,» he retorted. «I plan on doing it this year, too.»
Fields, the No. 11 pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, had an encouraging season in 2022. He recorded a personal best of 2,242 yards in 15 games last year. Though this number is still a significant distance from the coveted 4,000-yard mark, Fields also managed to rush for 1,143 yards.
As Fields looks towards the upcoming season, he's backed by the finest receiver corps he's had in his NFL career. The Bears beefed up their lineup by snatching up Chase Claypool just before last year's trade deadline, and they further bolstered their ranks by securing D.J. Moore in the early off-season.
