Dexter's skill was on full display during the veteran minicamp where he outperformed the starting interior offensive linemen, Teven Jenkins and Cody Whitehair, on multiple occasions - even scoring a sack against Jenkins.
Despite being at the beginning of his development journey, Dexter's potential to be a game-changer on the defensive end has not gone unnoticed by his teammates. Defensive tackle Justin Jones, in particular, is convinced that Dexter could evolve into a real powerhouse in the NFL.
Jones shared, «I think he's got some really, really strong hands and I think he knows ball. I think he knows he's got a little bit to learn and how to use his size you know, like every bit of it but he's going to be a force in this league.
«I genuinely believe that. I haven't seen anything like him in a very long time. I wouldn't want to confine him to any comparisons, but if I had to, I'd say he's something like a leaner Linval Joseph. He's a big, strong guy who can move. If you ever see him sprint in a straight line, I bet he's faster than a lot of guys on our team. That might come as a surprise.»
As the season begins, Dexter will initially serve as a rotational addition to the defensive line, backing up veterans like Jones and Andrew Billings. Dexter's ability to play both the three-technique and nose positions, a versatility he demonstrated during the offseason, sets him apart.
The goal, and anticipation, is for Dexter to carve out a place for himself as a perennial starter on the defensive line, forming a formidable partnership with fellow rookie defensive lineman Zacch Pickens.
