Though the common theme in most mock drafts has been the Bears drafting USC QB Caleb Williams with their first pick, The Athletic's Nate Tice has predicted a different QB going to the Bears at 1:

As seen in his mock draft, Tice predicts that the Bears will select North Carolina QB Drake Maye with the first overall pick in the 2024 draft.

Though Maye was a standout QB this past season, his best year was back in 2022, where he threw for 4,321 yards along with 38 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions. He was also named as the ACC Player of the Year, ACC Offensive Player of the Year, ACC Rookie of the Year, and was named as a First-team All-ACC.

At 6 foot 4 and weighing 230 pounds, Maye is able to break out of tackles, and continues to have similar speed of smaller players. Maye has a noteworthy strong arm, along with being able to make a play out of a broken call.

So, though Williams was the star of this past season, Maye could still end up going at number 1 due to his 2022 season, his scouting report, and his humble attitude.
