According to reports from The Athletic's Dianna Russini, insiders believe that the Broncos will formally part ways with the nine-time Pro Bowler "by next week." The onset of the 2024 NFL free agency is slated for Mar. 13 at 4:00 p.m. EST:
"The Broncos made it very clear the Russell Wilson chapter will be over soon. Around the league, people believe Denver will cut him by next week."
Wilson's benching for the last two regular-season games of 2023, triggered by his refusal to modify injury guarantees in his contract, has paved the way for this decision. His contract stipulated a staggering $37 million payout in the event of an injury in 2025.
Despite a challenging debut season with the Broncos, Wilson showcased a resurgence under new head coach Sean Payton. The 35-year-old quarterback achieved a completion rate of 66.4%, amassing 3,070 passing yards and 26 touchdowns against eight interceptions.
However, these improved performances were insufficient to secure a third year with the Broncos, leading to Wilson's forthcoming entry into the free-agent market for the first time in his illustrious career.
