Scott, who demonstrated impressive prowess on the field during his 2021 and 2022 seasons with the Cincinnati Bearcats, has a track record of 84 total receptions, 1,419 receiving yards, and 14 touchdowns across those two years.
His exemplary performances in 2022 included surpassing the 100-yard mark on four occasions, including a career-defining game against the Indiana Hoosiers on September 24. Here, he racked up a staggering 185 yards from 10 catches, with three touchdowns to boot. Despite these accolades, Scott has a tough road ahead to secure a starting position in Chicago's formidable lineup, which includes DJ Moore, Darnell Mooney, Chase Claypool, Equanimeous St. Brown, and Velus Jones Jr. Nevertheless, Scott's reputation as a deep threat holds promise for his potential rise to a starting position as the season progresses.
Scott's knack for breaking down defenses with his deep runs is a perfect match for the Bears' quarterback, Fields, who is recognized for his accuracy in long throws.
"I've been selected because I have a unique skillset that I believe can contribute to the team," Scott conveyed during the rookie minicamp last week. "My speed and my ability to be a deep threat are often topics of conversation. I know [Fields] prefers long throws. Essentially, I'll be another asset. Ultimately, my role is to facilitate his greatness. As one of my coaches put it, 'get his name in the headlines.'" It's worth noting that Scott, an Ohio native, has followed Fields closely over the years, from his shining moments at Ohio State to his current role in the Bears.
"As an Ohio State fan, I've always kept my eye on them," Scott shared. "Honestly, even while at Cincinnati, I kept tabs on Ohio State. I recall observing Fields and being in awe of his explosive energy and his game-changing prowess."
Fields was among the first to reach out to Scott upon his selection by the Bears.
"After I was drafted, he was quick to reach out," Scott recalled. "He slid into my Instagram DMs to introduce himself, which was pretty cool. And even when I arrived [last week for rookie minicamp], I think they were wrapping up a workout when he approached me, introduced himself, and extended a warm welcome."
