NFL Executive Compares Anthony Richardson to a Combination of Cam Newton and Justin Fields
The excitement surrounding Anthony Richardson, a prospective player for the 2023 NFL draft, is gaining momentum this week. And this excitement may sound very familiar to those in Charlotte.
During Friday's episode of NFL Live, Jeremy Fowler, ESPN's senior NFL reporter, provided the latest update on the University of Florida standout. Fowler mentioned that he cannot recall another quarterback prospect receiving such varying opinions from NFL teams, with some grading him in the first round while others in the fourth round. Despite being considered a bit raw, Fowler believes Richardson's immense talent should overshadow that fact, and he should find a team where he can sit and develop for a year.
Fowler went on to share an NFL executive's comment, which he found particularly memorable: "He's Cam Newton and Justin Fields combined. As far as ability, he has that." This comment underscores Richardson's unique potential.
Richardson has already been linked to the Carolina Panthers, most recently in a report from Fowler's ESPN colleague, Matt Miller. According to a rival general manager, the Panthers, with head coach Frank Reich's offensive mentality, would be the best fit for the 6-foot-4, 231-pound quarterback.
Given that the Panthers had previously had Newton and could have had Fields, why not go for the potential monster mash-up this time around?
