Isaiah McKenzie of the Indianapolis Colts faced a puzzling suspension for the final three games of the 2023 season. The team provided no specific reasons for the suspension, only citing "conduct detrimental to the team" as the cause. However, rumors quickly emerged, suggesting that he was being disciplined for his involvement in hunting a bald eagle.
To address these rumors, McKenzie took to social media (referred to as "X" here) on Monday to vehemently deny any such involvement. The source of this rumor remains unclear, but it gained significant traction on social media platforms.
If the allegations were true, the wide receiver would face far graver consequences than a mere three-game suspension. Killing a bald eagle is a serious offense, punishable by up to one year in prison and/or a fine of $100,000.
McKenzie had been an active participant in every game for the Colts up to Week 13 of the season, amassing 11 catches for 82 yards and returning 23 punts for 204 yards. However, he was unexpectedly benched for Week 14 and subsequently suspended for the remainder of the campaign.
