Why do we need to fix our secondary before our line?
Ryan Poles and company are under a lot of pressure right now to get the Bears back in fighting shape. We haven't had stability at QB since Cutler, and even then shaky at best. As much as we need help on the offensive line and wide receiver, we also have some glaring backfield issues.
The Bears ranked 27th in the NFL allowing 7.6 yards per attempt, allowed 31 touchdowns, and only made 8 interceptions, with opposing QBs putting up a rating of 103.3 against us. Not to say our defense was awful, we still got fourth in the league for sacks at 49, although with Khalil Mack now gone and Robert Quinn aging out sooner than later it won't be sustainable without fresh meat. Although Gordon's 40 was decent, Poles has said that he looks at players' "playing speed" over their 40 times as the two can often contradict each other.
Let's remember the last cornerback we drafted in 2004 with a sub-par 40 ended up being Nathan Vasher, so I mean there's solid hope. Brisker is the highest-drafted safety by the Bears since 2006 with Danieal Manning. The Bears seem to think these two have strong leadership skills and starter potential. It seems we'll have to trust the Bears to make smart choices with our last 3 picks. Two in round 5 and one in round six. Poles is definitely taking some gambles and will have to wait and see if they pay off, overall this has been an exciting draft so far. Go Bears Go.
