Ryan Poles, the Bears' general manager, and Matt Eberflus, the head coach, were all smiles at the NFL Combine as they watched some of the most athletic pass rushers in the league take to the field. The Bears struggled with their pass rush, ranking last in the NFL in pressures last season, with only 162. However, several impressive defensive linemen made themselves known during the testing, demonstrating that the Bears could retool their pass rush with any number of explosive athletes. One of the most impressive prospects was Jalen Carter, who is currently involved in a legal situation, making Georgia's Azeez Ojulari a more likely candidate.

Additionally, edge rushers Adetomiwa Adebawore and Tennessee's Byron Young showed off their explosiveness with excellent 40-yard dash times, vertical jumps, and broad jumps. Pittsburgh's undersized defensive tackle Calijah Kancey also made a statement, demonstrating agility and quickness on tape, which will make him an excellent interior pass rusher in the NFL. The Bears' need for a disruptive three-technique has been well-documented, and with early picks in most rounds, the team is in a prime position to select some game-changing pass rushers.
