During the initial quarter of the game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Denver Broncos, Jimmy Garoppolo secured a "Roughing the Passer" penalty against Justin Simmons following a dive near the first down line.
At first glance, it seemed Simmons was clearly at fault, warranting a penalty. However, a closer examination of the video reveals that Simmons barely touched Garoppolo. Garoppolo's dramatic reaction appeared to amplify the incident, resulting in the penalty. This penalty proved pivotal, as the Raiders eventually scored a touchdown in that drive and narrowly won with a score of 17-16. If the Broncos had managed to restrict the Raiders to just a field goal in that instance, the game's result might have varied.
Nonetheless, the Broncos can't solely blame this play for their defeat. They managed only 16 points against a defense that, in the previous season, conceded an average of 26.4 points per game. Additionally, their kicker, Wil Lutz, missed opportunities that cost the team four points.
