The New England Patriots initiated a fresh start for Mac Jones by trading their 2021 first-round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Now, the Patriots may reciprocate by targeting one of the Jags' standout players in the upcoming 2024 free agency period.

According to a report by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Patriots are gearing up to make a significant move for star wide receiver Calvin Ridley when free agency commences in three days:

"The Patriots are poised to make a substantial push for receiver Calvin Ridley. While the Jaguars are keen on retaining Ridley, they have yet to finalize the deal."

Since 2019, the Patriots haven't boasted a 1,000-yard receiver, a milestone last achieved by Julian Edelman. During his inaugural season with the Jaguars, the 29-year-old Ridley showcased his prowess with 76 receptions for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns. His standout year was in 2020, where he recorded 90 catches for 1,374 yards and nine touchdowns.

Ridley's journey has seen its share of challenges, including a suspension for the entirety of the 2022 season due to violating NFL gambling policies. Additionally, in the preceding year, he played in only five games before taking a hiatus to address his mental health.
