Speculation is rife that an NFC contender could be eyeing one of the Dallas Cowboys' standout defensive players.
Mike Fisher of CowboysSI.com identified seven potential trade candidates from the Dallas roster, including defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr. Coming off a career year with 8.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries, Armstrong Jr. has attracted attention:
"It's a questionable move he's a powerhouse on a reasonable contract. However, Armstrong is in the final year of his contract. Are the Cowboys so deep at defensive end that they would trade Armstrong (possibly for a fourth-round pick) instead of playing him in 2023 and then letting him leave in free agency? They might still get a comparable pick as compensation," Fisher speculated.
ESPN's Dan Graziano recently suggested that teams like the Seahawks, in need of defensive line depth, might approach Dallas with trade offers rather than waiting for potential cuts. However, according to Fisher's sources within the Seahawks organization, the team is currently satisfied with their defensive line.
Seahawks GM John Schneider has already addressed the team's front seven this offseason. He welcomed back All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner on a one-year deal and defensive end Jarran Reed on a two-year contract. Schneider also signed former Denver Bronco Dre'Mont Jones to a three-year deal.
Though the Seahawks may not be actively seeking additional pass rushers, a player like Armstrong Jr. on the trade block could be tempting for a team in win-now mode like Seattle.
On the other hand, Dallas may be inclined to retain Armstrong Jr. for the remainder of the season, given his ability to boost their Super Bowl chances. The pass-rushing trio of Armstrong Jr., Micah Parsons, and DeMarcus Lawrence is expected to continue wreaking havoc on opposing offenses.
