Those sources believe McVay will take some time after Sunday's regular-season finale against the Seattle Seahawks to determine whether he will return in 2023.
McVay has had quite the year. The Rams went from a Super Bowl victory to a five-win season and are now in a tough spot as an organization. They're facing cap issues, their core is aging, and they may have some very lean years ahead. The coach has also dealt with personal troubles: his grandfather, John McVay, died, and his wife's home country, Ukraine, was invaded by Russian forces.
Indeed, it's been a challenging season for McVay both on and off the field. His Rams won the Super Bowl on their home turf in February, but they failed to make the playoffs this season, and their 5-11 record is only ahead of Arizona's 4-12 mark in the NFC West.
They are also tight on salary cap space, and their offensive coordinator, Liam Coen, is expected to leave for the University of Kentucky.
McVay did note Friday he's "been interested in" joining television.
