It is widely believed that Sean Payton's decision to take on the head coaching role for the Denver Broncos was influenced by the presence of Russell Wilson in the city. However, according to former FOX Sports colleague Terry Bradshaw, Payton's motivations for accepting the position were not related to Wilson.

During a conversation with Vic Lombardi of Altitude Sports Radio, Bradshaw was asked about Payton's reasons for joining the Broncos. When asked about the Arizona Cardinals, Bradshaw stated that Payton did not want to work with Kyler Murray. In response to a question about Payton's desire to work with Wilson, Bradshaw replied, "Uh, I don't think so," and added that Payton had "no choice."

Last week, the Broncos made a trade with the New Orleans Saints to acquire Payton as their head coach. Payton served as the head coach of the Saints from 2006 to 2021, with the exception of the 2012 season which he was suspended for due to the Bountygate scandal. After announcing his resignation last year, Payton became available to join other teams.

Before acquiring Wilson in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, the Broncos had previously hired former Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett as their head coach. However, Hackett was not successful in his first head coaching role and was fired by the Broncos with two weeks remaining in the season.
