The Los Angeles Chargers are facing a difficult situation with regards to their roster this offseason, as they are reportedly $23.4 million over the salary cap. According to reports from The Athletic, the team is expected to release wide receiver Keenan Allen and tight end Gerald Everett as they look to free up space. Although Allen has been a staple of the Chargers' offense, he has struggled with injuries throughout his career and may be released in order to make room for other players.

However, it is important to note that even if Allen is released, he could be re-signed by the Chargers at a different salary rate. Despite his injury history, Allen is still considered one of the most dynamic playmakers in the NFL, with his quickness and precise route-running causing difficulties for opposing defensive backs.

Should Allen become a free agent, he is likely to attract interest from several teams. Some analysts believe that the Chicago Bears, with their quarterback Fields' preference for receivers who can create separation and offer good throwing windows, could be a possible destination for Allen if he is released. If he can remain healthy, Allen could still have two to three peak years left and would be a major asset for any team looking to bolster their passing attack.
