Legendary Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker and two-time Super Bowl champion Andy Russell passed away this week at the age of 82. A vital part of the Steelers' storied history, Russell played 12 seasons with the team, earning seven Pro Bowl selections. Drafted in the 16th round in 1963, he became an integral part of the Steelers' evolution from the 1960s to the powerhouse franchise of the 1970s under Chuck Noll.

Russell's contributions were recognized with numerous accolades, including being named a first-team AP NFL All-Pro in 1975 and being selected for the Steelers' all-time team and the inaugural class of the organization's Hall of Honor. Despite his remarkable career, Russell has yet to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, a fact lamented by many fans.

Hailing from the University of Missouri, Russell played his entire career in the iconic black and gold, appearing in 168 games with 162 starts. Even a stint in the United States Army during his second professional year couldn't derail his impact on the field, as he amassed 38 sacks and 18 interceptions throughout his career. His legacy as one of the greatest Steelers players endures, leaving an indelible mark on the franchise and the sport as a whole.
