Greg Hinz of Crain's Chicago Business reports that the Bears are now directing their attention to the lakefront in Chicago for the construction of their new stadium, moving away from the previous focus on Arlington Heights. The proposed state-of-the-art domed stadium would occupy the Soldier Field south lot, aiming to serve as a venue for Super Bowls, Final Fours, and various other events, mirroring the intentions initially set for Arlington Heights.
Goodell is optimistic about the potential of a domed stadium to enable Chicago to host prestigious events like the Super Bowl. He remarked, "A great stadium can host additional events... I think the domed stadium that they're talking about, both downtown and potentially in Arlington Heights, I think those are both great opportunities that I think they need to explore."
Despite the shift towards the lakefront, the Bears organization is still in the early stages of solidifying their stadium plans. Goodell noted, "The good news is that they have quite a bit of time on their lease and the Bears are committed to being in Chicagoland... I think they'll be able to develop a proposal good for the fans, but I also think it will be great for Chicago."
