The Cincinnati Bengals' aspirations for Super Bowl 58 suffered a severe setback on Friday with the news that their star quarterback, Joe Burrow, will not play again this season due to a torn ligament in his right wrist.

Burrow exited during the second quarter of Thursday night's clash with the Baltimore Ravens due to the wrist injury. The 27-year-old's frustration was evident on the sidelines as he struggled to grip a football, eventually retreating to the locker room.

In light of Burrow's season-ending injury, the Bengals are on the hunt for a quarterback to bolster their roster. Matt Lombardo of FanBuzz has floated the possibility of recruiting Malik Cunningham, Lamar Jackson's one-time Louisville teammate, currently with the New England Patriots' practice squad:

«Cunningham's dynamic ability as a dual-threat quarterback could enliven the Bengals' running game, offering a new dimension for running back Joe Mixon. Despite needing to polish his passing skills, Cunningham's top-tier athleticism, highlighted by his performance as the third most athletic quarterback at the 2023 Combine, could bring an intriguing element to the Bengals' offense," Lombardo noted. Cunningham was in his redshirt year at Louisville during Jackson's last college season and accumulated 3,182 rushing yards and 50 touchdowns across five years.

Substitute quarterback Jake Browning had a tough game in Burrow's stead, managing a mere 68 yards and one touchdown on eight completions out of 14 attempts, along with three sacks. With no previous NFL experience before this year, the Bengals are undoubtedly on the lookout for a more reliable starting quarterback.

With nothing left to lose and a powerful offense spearheaded by talents like Tyler Boyd, Tee Higgins, and Joe Mixon, the Bengals may find the addition of Cunningham sparks their offense. If given the opportunity, this could be the break Cunningham needs to jumpstart his NFL journey.
