The Chicago Bears possess the coveted first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, granting them the opportunity to choose from the cream of the crop among quarterback prospects.

There is widespread belief that the Bears will opt for Caleb Williams as their top pick. To further solidify their assessment, the Bears dispatched a significant delegation to Southern California early in the week, not only to make their presence felt at USC's Pro Day but also to finalize their evaluation of Williams. Notably, Williams granted a meeting exclusively to the Bears prior to his Pro Day on Wednesday.

The resounding consensus following USC's Pro Day is that Williams is poised to become the Bears' next franchise quarterback.

While the Bears pin their hopes on resolving their quarterback position with the selection of Williams, they recognize the importance of thoroughly vetting all top quarterback prospects until the pick is officially made. Consequently, the Bears will attend Michigan's Pro Day on Friday.

Michigan's standout quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, has seen his stock rise since the NFL Scouting Combine. Although the Bears may not occupy the spotlight as prominently as they did at USC, evaluating McCarthy remains imperative for Ryan Poles.

Poles' approach starkly contrasts with that of his predecessor, Ryan Pace, particularly regarding the 2017 selection of Mitch Trubisky. While Pace fixated on Trubisky, neglecting thorough evaluations of Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson, Poles emphasizes comprehensive assessment. While the selection of Trubisky might still have been likely, a more rigorous vetting process for all three quarterbacks could have led Pace to recognize superior options.

Poles has already demonstrated his superiority over Pace by ensuring a favorable environment for Williams. However, his commitment to assessing the entire quarterback class underscores the significance of unwavering conviction in the selection process. When the Bears ultimately choose Williams as the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Poles will have the assurance that no stone was left unturned.
