The talk around town is that the Chicago Bears are going to utilize their first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to bolster their strength in the trenches, completely ignoring the possibility of adding another wideout to their already talented wide receiver corps.

With the likes of DJ Moore, Darnell Mooney, and Chase Claypool, one would think that the Bears have nothing to worry about in that area of their depth chart, and they may not, however some factors need to be highlighted.

In debates regarding the Bears' receiving group, it's important to remember that Darnell Mooney is entering the last year of his deal. The Bears will need to fill a vacancy in their receiving corps if Mooney decides to test free agency in 2024 as there has been no word of a contract extension as of yet.

Another thing to note is that Chase Claypool, also a promising young receiver, will also be a free agent in 2024, which is something to keep in mind. Although the Bears' receiving group appears to be strong right now, the team may have some very difficult decisions to make in the future in terms of prioritizing who to sign.

Taking all that into consideration, now queue the possibility of drafting, potentially the best WR in the 2023 NFL Draft, Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky had some positive things to say about the Ohio State star:

«He has a great understanding of how to get open. Body leverage and lean, he understands that part of route running. The ability to change tempo, slow down, then speed up, that helps him get open.»

Looking past the fact that Smith-Njigba's skillset has him ready to take the next step in his career, it is also important to note that Justin Fields and Jaxon Smith-Njigba played together for one year at Ohio State.

When the 2021 NFL Draft came around, it was a popular opinion that the Cincinnati Bengals needed to stack up on the offensive line to protect Joe Burrow. Right? They skipped on Penei Sewell and drafted Ja'Marr Chase instead. Now it is fair to say that this college reunion in the NFL had converted into success on the field. Maybe the Bears can reproduce something similar?
