As reported by Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, Johnson is considered a potential replacement for Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe to co-host "Undisputed," a popular show on Fox Sports 1. Sharpe, who had been paired with Skip Bayless since the show's inception in 2016, departed the program recently.
"Johnson could be in the running to step into Shannon Sharpe's role on FS1's "Undisputed," as a debating counterpart to Skip Bayless. Being a resident of Los Angeles, where the show is produced, could work in Johnson's favor."
Johnson and Kellerman are amongst around 20 personalities who are exiting ESPN, as the network is taking measures to reduce its payroll.
Former star NFL running back LeSean McCoy was also speculated to be in the line-up for Sharpe's position on "Undisputed," but Fox Sports 1 hasn't made any official announcements yet.
Earlier this year, Disney CEO Bob Iger had announced the company's plans to cut 7,000 jobs as part of a cost-saving initiative. Friday's series of layoffs included the esteemed 27-year veteran Suzy Kolber, as well as Jeff Van Gundy, Jalen Rose, Steve Young, Max Kellerman, Matt Hasselbeck, and Todd McShay.
Approaching his 51st birthday, Johnson joined ESPN in 2007, post his retirement from professional football. His illustrious career, including stints with the New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys, and Carolina Panthers, saw him earn three Pro Bowl selections.
The crowning glory of Johnson's career was his Super Bowl 37 championship win with the Bucs during the 2002 season. That year, Johnson made 76 catches, garnering 1,088 yards, and scoring eight touchdowns. With four seasons exceeding 1,000 receiving yards, the USC alum's career stats boast 814 receptions for 10,571 yards and 64 touchdowns.
