The possibility of the Houston Texans trading up with the Chicago Bears for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft seems unlikely, according to several front office personnel. One NFL general manager shared with The Athletic his belief that Texans GM Nick Caserio will "sit on the (No. 2) pick." Another exec from a team with a top-10 pick also suggested that the Texans may not move up and could instead gamble on a quarterback being available at No. 12.

Mel Kiper Jr. outlined a scenario in his latest mock draft where the Bears would trade down twice, with the first trade being with the Texans. However, speculation about the Bears trading the No. 1 overall pick is varied, with no consistent theme emerging.

A different general manager suggested that the Carolina Panthers or "someone outside the top 10" could be more likely trade partners for the Bears' top pick. The Bears' asking price is reportedly high, with the team seeking a first- and second-round pick in this year's draft, as well as a first-round pick in 2024 and 2025 to move outside the top five.

NBC Sports Chicago's Bears Insider Josh Schrock noted that there is potential for the price to come down if the trade partner is still in the top five. Peter King also identified the Panthers as the team most likely to overpay for the No. 1 overall pick, with owner David Tepper reportedly seeking a long-term answer at quarterback. The Bears may take a deal from the Panthers if they have enough "blue" players on the board to ensure they'll get one picking at No. 9.

While multiple teams are reportedly "scrambling" to land the No. 1 overall pick, it remains to be seen who the Bears' trade partner will be.
