Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent managed to secure a spot on the 53-man roster, beating out veteran players P.J. Walker and Nathan Peterman. However, the Bears haven't officially designated Bagent as the second-string QB for the upcoming season.
In a twist, the team brought Peterman back to the active roster only two days after releasing him during the final roster cuts. Head Coach Matt Eberflus expressed enthusiasm about Peterman's return, saying, "It's great to have him back. He and Justin [Fields] have a good grasp of the offense, having learned it together. They communicate well, so his presence in the quarterback room is beneficial."
Despite this, the backup quarterback role remains up in the air, with no clear indication whether it will be Bagent or Peterman backing up Fields in Week 1. "We haven't made a final decision on who will be the backup for the opening game," Eberflus stated earlier this week. "That's something we'll determine as we move forward."
