Roy, an alumni of Baylor, was initially chosen in the sixth round. He has since played in 45 matches, with 15 of them as starts, over his three-season stint with the Panthers. However, with Carolina recently shifting to a 3-4 defense strategy this offseason, the need for extra depth in the middle was diminished.
In the previous season, Roy marked his stats with 17 tackles, five stops, and four pressures across 13 games, of which he started four. His performance in 2022 earned him a PFF run defense grade of 48.6 and a pass rush grade of 60.9.
Despite Roy's extensive experience as a nose tackle, the Bears seem to be adequately staffed in the defensive tackle position with players like Justin Jones, Andrew Billings, and newcomers Gervon Dexter Sr. and Zacch Pickens.
