Reiff's first five seasons were with the Detroit Lions, who selected him 23rd overall in the 2012 NFL draft. After a four-year stint with the Minnesota Vikings, he helped the Cincinnati Bengals to the Super Bowl last season, holding defenders off Joe Burrow for four sacks in 12 games.
The tackle allowed just four sacks and incurred only one penalty across 711 offensive snaps last season, per Pro Football Focus.
Reiff has nearly 140 career starts under his belt, was still playing at a starting-caliber level last season, and has ample experience playing both left and right tackle.
While I really liked what I saw from rookie Larry Borom and Teven Jenkins last season, I fully expect Reiff to be the starting left tackle this season.
I get that a deal worth up to $12.5 million is pretty hefty, but the risk is very low since it's only a one-year deal. The worst-case scenario is that Reiff is not the same player he once was and the Bears move on from him after the end of the year.
