The case for Mike Williams in Chicago

Mike Williams has been a very valuable asset for the Los Angeles Chargers for the past 5 seasons. Although he may have not lived up totally to his high draft pick position (7th overall) he has been a fine receiver in some games, and he has been an excellent receiver in others. What he may lack in consistency, he makes up for it in huge game-changing plays. Indeed, he has shown that he can catch fire and take over some games.

The Chicago Bears probably won't resign Allen Robinson and they will be in great need of an outside presence at the receiver spot. In order to help their young quarterback in Justin Fields, the Bears would benefit greatly in adding a receiving that can have a huge impact immediately. Williams piled up 1146 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2021. He had 4 games over 100 yards. However, what may keep him from getting a huge top 10 receiver contract is his lack of consistency. He had a tendency to disappear a little in some crucial games in the last few years. I still think that he could be an amazing fit in the Bears' offense to help Field progress as a quarterback.

The Chargers could franchise-tag him. But, the Chargers are loaded at the receiver spot. They have guys like Keenan Allen, Jalen Guyton and Josh Palmer. It is a real possibility that the Chargers let Williams walk. Any team that wants to get their hands on the big 6»4 receiver out of Clemson has to be prepared to give him a long-term contract in the area of $15-17 million annually. Ryan Poles has mentioned his desire to get a couple of big-time receivers to the Bears and Williams would certainly fit that description. Make it happen now!
