Caleb Williams is widely touted as the potential No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft, thanks to his exceptional off-platform techniques, off-script play-making abilities, and impressive athleticism. However, the reasons behind his status as one of the top prospects in the country extend beyond his physical talents. His high school coach at Gonzaga High School, Randy Trivers, recently shared insights on what makes Williams an elite quarterback during an interview on the Parkins & Spiegel show on 670 The Score.

Trivers began by highlighting Williams' mental endurance and toughness, emphasizing his ability to excel in competitive situations, especially when faced with critical moments. Trivers noted, "You don't know how he's going to respond in competitive situations at the next level... A lot of times you have guys with talent and physical skills, but they lack that 'it' factor."

In addition to mental fortitude, Trivers spoke of Williams' dynamic skills as a quarterback, suggesting that he can adapt to various offensive systems. He recalled instances from their time together when Williams displayed incredible versatility, shifting between running and passing as the game demanded. Williams' commitment to doing whatever it takes to win stood out, as Trivers described moments when he both carried the ball like a tailback and threw precise passes with equal effectiveness.

While Williams is known for his arm strength, accuracy, and playmaking ability through passing, Trivers also highlighted his proficiency as a runner. Although he may not be in the same category as someone like Justin Fields in terms of running, Williams has consistently demonstrated his capability to make plays with his legs, recording significant rushing yards and touchdowns throughout his college career.

Trivers further emphasized the importance of Williams' leadership and determination. He referenced a memorable high school game where Gonzaga faced adversity, and Williams had to rally his team to an incredible comeback victory. Despite injuries and setbacks, Williams exhibited unwavering composure, delivering crucial plays, including a game-winning Hail Mary toss. Trivers praised Williams for his mental toughness and leadership qualities, dispelling any doubts about his ability to lead a team.

Addressing concerns about Williams' father, Carl, and his involvement in his son's football career, Trivers clarified that Carl is a caring father who genuinely supports his son. Trivers also defended Williams' emotional reaction to a loss, highlighting that he'd prefer an athlete who expresses emotions after a defeat over one who remains stoic even in challenging situations.

In a lighthearted note, Trivers humorously suggested that Williams might work on his singing and dancing skills, implying that there's very little to critique about his gameplay.
