The Lions will likely release one of their best players
Chris Burke of The Athletic wrote down Detroit Lions DE Trey Flowers as a likely cap causality.
The 28-year-old player counts for a whopping $23.2 million against the cap. He has also missed 20 games in the past two years. Burke mentioned that while he thinks that his veteran presence would benefit the Lions, his unreasonable cap hit is just too much.
Flowers was once regarded as one of the NFL's most underrated players. He was a very good player for the New England Patriots and he was eventually signed to a huge 5 years $90 million contract.
His first year in Detroit was very good. However, he has missed a lot of playing time due to injuries since 2020. While he is still a very good player when healthy, they can't afford to pay a guy who is "injury-prone" over $23 million next year.
Could the Bears pick him up for a one-year prove-it kind of deal? There is a case to be made that he could be very cheap for his talent.
