Finding the Right Balance in Building the TeamPoles said, as quoted by NBC Sports,
Filling the Gap for Edge Rushers
The Bears didn't pick any new edge rushers in the 2023 NFL draft even though there were many good ones to choose from. Poles said this was just how the draft turned out, but that doesn't change the fact that the team could use more help. They have about $35.7 million left to spend and could look for a player who knows Matt Eberflus' defensive plan.
Yannick Ngakoue: The Best Player for the Bears
Yannick Ngakoue could be the perfect player for the Bears. At the start of free agency, PFF ranked him 62nd among free agents. They thought he would make $12.5 million a year, and Spotrac.com thought he would make $14.8 million. The Bears might not want him if he costs too much money. However, Ngakoue is good at getting sacks and has never had fewer than eight in a season. But he only focuses on pass-rushing, not stopping the run.
Why Hasn't Ngakoue Been Signed Yet?
It's not clear why the 28-year-old Ngakoue wasn't signed before the draft. He has played for four different teams in the past three years but has always gotten at least eight sacks per season. He also hasn't missed many games because of injuries, only missing three games in the past three years.
The Bears might want to sign Ngakoue for more than one year since he's only 28 years old. Spotrac's estimated 2023 market value for Ngakoue is $14.8 million.
