This former OC is next up on the Bears' interview list!

Klint Kubiak, currently the San Francisco 49ers' passing game coordinator, is the second individual reported to be in consideration for an interview. This news comes from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

At 36 years old, Kubiak has less experience as an offensive coordinator compared to another candidate, Shane Waldron of the Seattle Seahawks. Kubiak has only held the offensive coordinator position for a single season.

Similar to Waldron, Kubiak has a strong background in the wide zone blocking scheme. This connection is even more pronounced in Kubiak's case, as he is the son of Gary Kubiak, a former coach for the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos. Gary Kubiak was a member of Mike Shanahan's staff on the Broncos when the blocking scheme gained popularity. The Bears adopted this approach extensively two seasons ago under the guidance of Luke Getsy, with offensive line coach Chris Morgan teaching it. Chris Morgan continues to be a part of the Bears' coaching staff after the dismissal of most offensive coaches.

Gary Kubiak began his coaching career at Texas A&M in a quality control role, followed by a similar position with the Minnesota Vikings starting in 2013. Klint Kubiak joined his father's Broncos staff as an offensive assistant in 2016 and remained there for three years. He then served as the quarterbacks coach for the Vikings for two years, followed by a season as their offensive coordinator, his first in that role.

Under Mike Zimmer, the Vikings ranked 12th in offense, 11th in passing, and 26th in rushing during Kubiak's tenure as coordinator. He then returned to Denver for a season as the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Nathaniel Hackett, before joining the 49ers this year as their passing game coordinator.
