Blackson started 8 games last season. He did not pay horribly but he was not the answer. He made little impact on passing downs and he was not solid enough in stopping the run. In addition to that, he is 29 years old. The bears are in a place where they want to get a lot younger on the defensive line.
If Ryan Poles was to release Blackson, it would free up $2.1 million in cap savings and cost $1 million in dead money. However, a post-June 1 designation would clear $2.6 million in cap space and cost only $500,000 in dead money.
It will be interesting to see what he does with his situation but I believe his time might be coming to an end in Chicago...
