Discussions of Justin Fields losing his starter status shouldn't even be a topic.

It's not up for debate.

This was evident from what Bears coach Matt Eberflus said after their 30-12 triumph over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Despite rookie Tyson Bagent's commendable stint as the backup during the win, the Bears, now standing at 2-5 for the season, look forward to welcoming back their injured primary quarterback.

Having a reliable backup like Bagent is an advantage. No whispers yet of him being the next Brock Purdy.

"Justin remains our primary quarterback," emphasized Eberflus. "Tyson, as his backup, stepped in and performed admirably. As for Justin's status, we're still evaluating.

"We need to see the progress of his thumb injury. We'll be taking a closer look tomorrow."

A 162-yard passing game with a touchdown and no turnovers stands out, especially when dominating at the front line. Such stats, though, might fall short against a team more formidable than the Raiders.

The Bears' offensive strategy was conservative, not attempting any long passes beyond 17 yards. Nonetheless, they engaged receivers DJ Moore and Darnell Mooney, who registered eight receptions for 54 yards and four for 32, respectively.

Notably, the only tight end reception was by Marcedes Lewis, a 16-yard completion, perfectly executed.

In his NFL debut, Bagent showcased calmness, confidence, efficiency, and emerged victorious.

Given that the Bears have a 6-25 record when Fields starts, maybe the conversation should shift. Instead of questioning Bagent's potential for long-range plays, perhaps it's worth pondering if Fields can handle the intricacies of the game as efficiently as Bagent demonstrated.

The essence of NFL matches is to secure victories, whether they're on Sundays, Mondays, or Thursdays, and not merely to accumulate fantasy points.

Bagent didn't entertain discussions about him claiming the starting position. He acknowledged his role and appreciated Fields for his sideline support.

Bagent said, "I couldn't be more grateful to him. Both Justin and Nate (Peterman) have been invaluable. Their experience and insights were crucial to our execution and my performance today."
