Virginia McCaskey is the daughter of the legendary team founder George Halas. When her father died in 1983, she inherited the team. This makes her the longest-tenured owner in the NFL currently.
On March 13th, Bears insider Jeff Hughes said in an update that she is not well and neither is the team dynamics. He also added: «The family has rarely been in this much turmoil over the last thirty years and there are some close to the organization who believe a sale might actually be on the table once Virginia passes.»
However, we received good news today. Adam Hoge reported that the Bears chairman and son of Virginia, George McCaskey confirms she had a medical issue in January that has since been resolved. She is doing better but she was unable to make the trip to the NFL Annual Meeting this week.
Whatever you think of the job she has done in the past decades, she is such an influential woman in the NFL and especially in Chicago sports. We are glad to hear that she is doing well.
