Video footage from Super Bowl LVIII captured Kyle Shanahan, NFL cameras caught Kyle Shanahan warning refs during Super Bowl LVIII, but they completely ignored him.

While some may argue that overall, Super Bowl LVIII was well-officiated, San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan holds a different view.

In the opening quarter, the 49ers aimed to establish themselves early in the game. However, a play featuring Brock Purdy connecting with George Kittle for an 18-yard pass was nullified due to an offensive holding penalty on Trent Williams, who was observed tugging on the jersey of Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Mike Danna.

Though Shanahan may have disagreed with the call, he didn't overlook his own player's infraction and conveyed his concerns to the referee. He pointed out that the Chiefs frequently engaged in similar tactics to free up Patrick Mahomes and insisted on fair officiating.

Despite Shanahan's plea, the referees refrained from penalizing the Chiefs for holding throughout the game.

"Hey, I saw the hold, but that's what they do every time," Shanahan expressed to the official. "They hold, they tug our guy until Pat [Mahomes] leaves, and then they let go. That's what our guy did, make sure they call it both ways."

Leading up to the Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs led the league with 30 offensive holding penalties in the 2023 season.

Ahead of Super Bowl LVIII, 49ers defender Nick Bosa criticized the Chiefs' offensive line for excessive holding. Despite being subject to more holding, no penalties were called. Team CEO Jed York also voiced dissatisfaction over a holding no-call during San Francisco's Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs four years prior.

However, despite the complaints, the referees remained unmoved, and the Chiefs' offensive line went uncalled for holding penalties in three Super Bowls.
