Steve McMichael, the legendary defensive tackle of the Chicago Bears, has received a well-deserved recognition as a senior semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2024. This news comes as a thrilling development for both McMichael and his loyal fanbase. The Bears organization also has another reason to celebrate, as team owner Virginia McCaskey is also a semifinalist as a contributor.

Affectionately known as "Mongo," McMichael left an indelible mark during his impressive 13-year career with the Bears. His impact was particularly prominent during the dominance of the iconic 1985 Bears squad. Numerous former teammates, including Richard Dent, have passionately argued that McMichael's accomplishments warrant his immediate enshrinement in the Hall of Fame.

However, McMichael has been courageously battling ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) for the past couple of years. In April 2021, he revealed his diagnosis, and since then, the disease has left him fully paralyzed and robbed him of his voice. Despite these challenges, McMichael's spirit remains unyielding.

Check it out here:

Recently, WGN's Jarrett Payton shared a heartwarming video capturing McMichael's reaction upon learning that he is a semifinalist for the prestigious Hall of Fame. The sight of a smile on Mongo's face serves as a testament to his resilience and the significance of this recognition.

During his illustrious tenure with the Bears, McMichael contributed immensely to the team's success. He was an integral part of the 1985 Super Bowl championship team and garnered impressive accolades throughout his career. McMichael earned the distinction of being a two-time First Team All-Pro, a three-time Second Team All-Pro, and a two-time Pro Bowler. His remarkable total of 92.5 career sacks places him second in franchise history, only behind the great Richard Dent (124.5).

Now, the road to Canton for McMichael and the other semifinalists involves a crucial vote to determine the finalists. In order to secure induction into the hallowed halls of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the finalists must receive at least 80% of the vote. This process will undoubtedly be filled with anticipation and fervor as fans and supporters eagerly await the outcome.

For Steve McMichael, this recognition as a Hall of Fame semifinalist is a well-deserved tribute to his remarkable career and enduring impact on the sport of football. As we await the final verdict, one thing is certain: Mongo's place among the immortals of the game is firmly etched in the hearts of Bears fans and football enthusiasts alike.
