The contract talks went nowhere, and right before the trade deadline passed, Johnson requested to be traded.
The deadline then passed and the Bears were unable to find a satisfying offer for their CB, so Johnson still remains in Chicago.
The Bears did make a trade however, and acquired Commanders DE Montez Sweat in exchange for a 2nd round 2024 pick.
Like Johnson, Sweat's contract expires after the 2023 season, and the Bears are hoping to sign Sweat back, or else this trade would go down as one of the worst deals of all time.
When talking to the media on Wednesday, Johnson was asked about the possibility of the newcomer getting an extension deal before him, to where Johnson then made sure to express how it would not sit right with him:
Johnson would not be thrilled if Sweat signs a long term deal before him, as Johnson has been apart of this team since being drafted by them in 2020. He wants to stay with the Bears, but also knows that this game is a business.
