As noted by Mark Lazerus of The Athletic, Jones had seen future Hall of Famers Kane, Toews, and Marc-Andre Fleury and did not anticipate the current situation. "It's a little bit weird," said Jones. "It's not something that a few years ago, I thought was going to happen. When I looked at our team, we had a bunch of young players that we could build around, and now it's kind of taken a turn."
Jones went on to say, "Yeah, I'm becoming more mentally prepared now. It's not easy, obviously. This is my 10th year in the league, and I haven't really won much. I've been in the second round one time. That's what we play for. I play for the playoffs and the chance to win in the postseason."
Many would agree with Jones as the Chicago Blackhawks had Kirby Dach, Alex DeBrincat, and Brandon Hagel to build around but decided to trade all three. Head coach Luke Richardson responded to Jones' impatience by stating that he is a highly competitive athlete who wants to win, and that he has settled into what he means to the team.
