Robinson was coming off two straight 1100+ yards seasons and was supposed to be a top receiver in the league. However, things did not go as planned. He looked like a shell of himself on the field. He had a mediocre 410 receiving yards and only 1 touchdown grab. There is no question that the 2021 season was the worst season of Robinson's 8-year career.
Robinson defended himself on Twitter last night. Here is the tweet that I am referring to:
The numbers that Robinson is talking about were the number of targets that the wide receiver had with the Bears during his last three years with the team. Robinson was the most targeted receiver for the Bears in 2019 and 2020 with 154 and 151 targets in both of these years. He only had 66 last year.
Allen Robinson's hopes of landing a big contract are done, for the time being, the more plausible scenario is he will seek out a one-year deal elsewhere on a team with a proven quarterback. If he proves his worth during that year, he could sign a longer-term contract afterwards.
