Bears DC answered some questions!
The new Bears' defensive coordinator sat down with Larry Mayer, a ChicagoBears.com writer for an interview.
Williams was first asked what he expects of his future defense. He responded: "We are going to be No. 1 in terms of hustle. We're going to hit, we're going to be physical and we're going to find different ways to take the football away because takeaways equal victories. "
I love this response because I think it truly fits with what coach Eberflus has in mind. I know that this is all talk, but I think the intense mindset is really the key for the 2022's Bears defense. If you can mix the talent they have with a great motor all around, you could have something special.
Afterwards, he was asked about what he thinks of the current state of his defensive players. Williams said: "Talented. Physical. And then I've talked to a few of them just over the phone and through text message. Good people. So whenever you have good people and they're talented, you have a chance to win".
This is again another important point because the first thing I noticed when listening to Williams is his genuine personality. He really seems like a great man. He is certainly known to be a player's coach. I love that he is already starting to build a relationship with some of the players. Especially on defense, when guys love their coaches, they tend to play even harder and give their 100% on every play. Another very encouraging press conference from a member of the coaching staff.
