For the Bears' Week 4 game against the Denver Broncos, Claypool was not in the lineup. Post-game, Eberflus conveyed to the media that it was Claypool's own decision to remain absent. However, a clarification came later from a Bears' representative, stating that the team had instructed Claypool not to attend.

Adding to their woes, the Bears relinquished a 21-point advantage to the Broncos at Soldier Field, ending with a 31-28 defeat. Now at 0-4 for the season, they share the unfortunate distinction of being one of the league's two remaining winless teams.
