Bears' Justin Fields Joins Exclusive Top-Five Ranking, Self-Proclaimed
As the quarterback for the Chicago Bears, Justin Fields feels confident that his running prowess merits historic acclaim. Fields boldly positioned himself within the top-five all-time running quarterbacks during an "All Things Covered Podcast" segment. When quizzed by Bryant McFadden, a former NFL cornerback and CBS Sports analyst, Fields didn't hesitate to include himself in the distinguished lineup, which also comprised of Lamar Jackson, Cam Newton, Michael Vick, and the renowned Steve Young.
Though it may appear presumptuous at first, Fields' record stands in support of his claim. Last season saw him clocking 1,143 rushing yards over 15 games, marking the second-highest record for a quarterback in the history of the league. Over his two-season career, he's led quarterbacks with a total of 1,563 rushing yards and ranked third in rushing touchdowns, having scored ten.
However, if Fields is to share the stage with the luminaries he named, he'll need to sharpen his passing skills. His current passing statistics, which include a 59.7 percent completion rate and a 40.2 QBR, fall short of the league's average.
The acquisition of wide receiver D.J. Moore from Carolina might prove instrumental in Fields' development as a passer. Fields himself expressed optimism about their budding partnership during OTAs and mini-camp, as reported by ESPN's Courtney Cronin. If he can advance his passing game, Fields could rapidly ascend the ranks and stake his claim as one of the league's top playmakers. Subsequently, he may draw more parallels with the elite dual-threat quarterbacks he looks up to.
