At the post-practice media briefing on Tuesday, head coach Matt Eberflus disclosed that Claypool was temporarily out of action due to a few insignificant injuries. "Chase is working through a couple of issues at the moment," Eberflus revealed without prompt. "He is collaborating with the medical team [but] he is present here."
Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times inquired about Eberflus' level of worry regarding Claypool's injuries. Eberflus played down their gravity by stating, "Chase is addressing a few minor issues. The advantage of this period is that we can take our time with him and the trainers. There is no rush, and our goal is to ensure he's at peak fitness by summer. We have a 40-day window from our break here to get him ready for the training camp. That's the plan."
During the early stages of organized team activities (OTAs), Claypool was active and received high praise from fellow teammates and coaches. However, he has been notably missing from the field for the past few weeks. The expectation is that he will overcome these minor injuries in time for the training camp scheduled for late July.
In the 2022 season, the Bears brought Claypool onboard via a trade deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, with an anticipation of him playing a significant role in their 2023 offense. The fourth-year wide receiver featured in seven games for the Bears last season, racking up 14 receptions for a total of 140 yards.
