The Philadelphia Eagles have announced a series of roster changes today, the most surprising of which is the release of a cornerback who was seen as a promising prospect.
Greedy Williams, a former second-round draft pick out of LSU, was cut by the team this Saturday morning, despite being signed to a one-year deal back in March. The Eagles had high hopes for Williams, intending for him to realize his potential alongside cornerbacks Darius Slay and James Bradberry. Unfortunately, things did not pan out as they had hoped.
During his two seasons with the Cleveland Browns, Williams recorded 99 tackles, 12 pass breakups, two interceptions, and a forced fumble.
Along with Williams, the Eagles have also waived punter Ty Zentner, wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland, defensive tackle Noah Elliss, and cornerback Zech McPhearson. Cleveland, Ellis, and McPhearson were released with injury designations. In particular, Cleveland suffered a severe injury in Thursday's preseason game against the Browns, landing on his head while attempting a catch and subsequently being stretchered off the field.
In addition to the cuts, the Eagles have made several signings. Defensive tackles Robert Cooper, Marvin Wilson, and Caleb Sanders have all joined the team, along with linebackers Tyreek Maddox-Williams and Quinton Bell.
