Garoppolo spent six seasons with the 49ers but played in only 11 games in 2022 due to a broken foot. He recorded 2,437 yards passing, 16 touchdowns, and four interceptions while leading the team to a 7-3 record in the games he started. Rookie Brock Purdy took over after Garoppolo's injury and led the team to the NFC Championship, where they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.
In 2019, Garoppolo led the 49ers to a 13-3 record and a Super Bowl appearance, but he missed time due to injury in 2020 and was inconsistent the following season, leading the team to initially pivot to Trey Lance as the starter heading into the 2022 season. However, Garoppolo was forced into action in Week 2 after Lance suffered a season-ending injury.
Garoppolo was initially the backup to Tom Brady in New England for the first two seasons of his career before being traded to the 49ers in October 2017. He will now reunite with Josh McDaniels, his former offensive coordinator with the Patriots. Garoppolo is a native of Arlington Heights, Illinois.
