Damar Hamlin's Father Has One Special Request To All NFL Fans
The Buffalo Bills received some welcome news about hospitalized safety Damar Hamlin on Wednesday.
Returning to the team practice facility in Orchard Park for the first time since Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on Monday night in Cincinnati, Bills players took part in a Zoom call with Hamlin's father, Mario, who said his son was making progress.
'The team needed it,' one source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The second-best news came from the ever-growing contributions to the Damar Hamlin toy drive. The fund now exceeds $8.1 million. And it keeps going up.
The top donors include the Colts and owner Jim Irsay, who gave $25,003. The Patriots and owner Robert Kraft donated $18,003. Kraft selected 18 because, within the Jewish faith, 18 means «chai.» It signifies life.
In other news, Mario Hamlin, the foundation's executive director, and Damar's dad, would instead want fans to donate to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center trauma center.
«If you're looking for other ways to support,» Mario Hamlin wrote Thursday, «we ask that you buy your first responders and trauma centers lunch to support the care that Damar has received.»
