Darren Waller Was Upset With Raiders HC Josh McDaniels For Leaking Personal Info Concerning Him And His Wife
Darren Waller, one of the most talented tight ends in the NFL, has been traded to the Giants from the Raiders in exchange for a third-round pick. While the return may seem low for a player who was a Pro Bowler in 2020, there may be a reason why the Raiders let him go for so little.
According to The Athletic's Vic Tafur, Waller was upset with Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels for accidentally leaking personal information about him and his wife. McDaniels had announced at the Scouting Combine that Waller was getting married, which was news to the couple, who had not publicly announced their plans to get married. Waller married Kelsey Plum, a WNBA star who plays for the Las Vegas Aces.
Despite the trade, the newlyweds will now be separated by about 2,500 miles. Waller has had two consecutive 1,100-yard receiving seasons in 2019 and 2020, but injuries have plagued him over the past two seasons, resulting in just 17 games played.
Waller is signed for the next four seasons and is owed over $46 million, with no guaranteed money on the contract after 2023.
