NFL Insider Throws Cold Water on Aaron Rodgers Trade Rumors to NY Jets
Recent reports suggesting that the New York Jets are on the verge of acquiring star quarterback Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers may be premature, according to one prominent NFL insider. Although Rodgers is set to appear on «The Pat McAfee Show» on Wednesday, fueling speculation about his future, the insider cautioned that nothing is yet finalized.
While acknowledging that communication between the Jets and the Packers is ongoing, the insider noted that Rodgers has not definitively indicated a desire to play for the Jets. However, the insider also suggested that Rodgers' upcoming appearance on McAfee's show could be a sign that a deal is closer than previously thought.
ESPN's Dianna Russini reported that Rodgers has given the Jets a list of players he would like to see added to the team if he were to be traded to New York. This list reportedly includes Rodgers' former teammates and friends, such as wide receiver Allen Lazard (who recently signed a four-year, $44 million contract with the Jets), WR Randall Cobb, tight end Marcedes Lewis, and free agent WR Odell Beckham Jr.
If the Jets were to acquire Rodgers, it would mark a significant moment for a franchise that has struggled to find a franchise quarterback since Joe Namath's departure in 1976. The Jets have not made the playoffs in 13 years, which is currently the longest drought in the NFL.
The Jets do have some promising young talent on offense, including wide receiver and 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall. Adding Rodgers to the mix would undoubtedly bring a new level of optimism to the organization. However, for now, Jets fans will have to wait and see if these trade rumors become a reality.
