Former Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery has found a new home with the Detroit Lions after agreeing to a three-year, $18 million contract that includes $11 million guaranteed, according to a source close to the situation. Meanwhile, the Bears have signed former Seattle Seahawks running back Travis Homer to a two-year deal that could be worth up to $4.5 million, per his agent Spencer Cannold.

Montgomery, who is 25 years old, joins a Lions running back group that had the most rushing touchdowns in the league last season with 23, including 17 from Jamaal Williams and five from D'Andre Swift. Williams is currently an unrestricted free agent, while Swift is under contract through 2023, the final year of his rookie deal.

Despite a competitive group of free agent running backs, Montgomery still managed to rank tenth in rushing yards with 801 and fifth in receiving yards with 316. He also recorded his first receiving touchdown since his second season in Chicago, while achieving his highest yards per catch at 9.3 in 2022.

Here is the message that Montgomery said to Bears nation on his Instagram:
